Valance

For my birthday, two of my lovely sisters took me fabric shopping and we picked out fabric to beautify my teeny-tiny apartment. More specifically we picked out coordinating fabric to match my new gray slip cover (for our love seat... yes, our apartment only fits a love seat) to make a valance and pillows. Here is the fabric for the valance. I love it. Not only does it match the gray of the slip cover, but it also matches the vintage yellow stove and fridge. Lovely. :)

(The gum is only a reference point so you can see how small the print actually is.)

Now, this is where I need your help. Which type of valance should I make. Straight or gathered (very technical terms I know)?

In case you are wondering, the window the valance will be covering is about the same size as the window in picture #2.

Thanks for your help!

That's a tough one. Since it's for your living room, I would say straight just because I really like simple lines in living rooms-bedrooms and kitchens can be more fru-fru (that's personal opinion though). I'd hate to put more ideas into your head, but what about a straight valance that has a scalloped edge? That way, there's still dimension in the actual SHAPE of the valance, but it's not gathered anywhere.

I've always liked gathered. But if Brad thinks its going too much on the feminine side, then straight.

I like either, but I've always loved gathered. Good luck choosing! PS - The fabric is darling!!

I really like the straight one in picture #1. I agree with brad about the feminine ruffled ones, plus I think they look a bit "country" style...which isn't really my thing. But hey---either one would be cute in that material! =)

If you do the gathered then you can adjust it to a new size when you move!

Definitely straight. Especially with the fabrics you have. The gathered with that material will look a little silly.

Definitely straight number 1.

I think straight is the way to go. The pattern is busy enough to hold it's own and might look too busy if it were gathered.

I am commenting despite not having an opinion. I'm excited for whatever one you choose.
