I do not understand what a button shank remover is for...

I'm with Anna. What is a button shank remover? Does it help you remove buttons faster?

And what is a button shank anyway?

I'm so lost...

The shank is the part behind the button that allows you to sew it onto clothing (not the buttons with four or two holes, the ones with a plastic loop that sticks out the back). The remover allows you to clip it off quickly and easily (better than pliers, I'm told). You can then use your newly-flat-backed button in all manner of crafts.

:) I feel so knowledgeable! Though to be honest, I had to ask Jess what one was when she first mentioned them several months ago.

Wow. Thanks Brad. Jess, you'll have to fill me on the crafts you can do with newly-flattened buttons.

EXCEPT: my neighbors sell cute little barrettes that look like a backless button is glued onto a barrett. Maybe THAT'S what they did?!
