For those of you that care, I started reading Twilight Sunday night. I am currently about half-way through the book and, I'm not sure how to say this, but I'm just not hooked. Sure, there have been some fun one-liners I've laughed over and overall, it is enjoyable... BUT, it just doesn't seem to live up to the hype (yet... hopefully it'll win me over soon right?).
I think part of the problem for me is that it is just not believable, NOT because it is about vampires, but because adolescents just haven't fully developed cognitively enough at that age for me to appreciate their "unconditional and irrevocable" love. Maybe my education (my degree is in Marriage, Family, and Human Development) has ruined me from fully enjoying romance novels based on teenagers.
Twilight lovers, please don't hate me.

Jessica,
I find the books far more enjoyable if I suspend reality and pretend bella is a junior in COLLEGE. She kind of alludes to the fact that bella is mature for her age because her mom wasn't the most motherly type, but not enough is explained to make it truly believable. Trust me, pretend she's in college and you'll be much happier. AND 2nd half is better than the first. AND books 2 and 3 are better too. Good times.
Jess, I felt the same way. I kept waiting for it too pick up but it just didn't for me. I think all the hype ruined it and I had a hard time believing the romance. I gave up after the first book.
Thank you! I thought I was crazy...The second two are...better...but I just wasn't "completely in love" like everyone else! I, like Anna, have to change her age because it makes me physically ill to imagine her any younger. Regardless, I'll probably still see the movie, but I don't think I'll be reading the books again any time soon.
Good suggestions from the others, in my opinion. It's pretty sappy, but there is a little bit of engaging storyline hidden amongst the silly romance-ness.
Well, unlike everyone else, I just loved this book to bits and pieces. And Edward, while physically 17, is not mentally 17. He's lived for hundreds of years. He's mature, he knows what love is. And Bella, well, she's just mature for her age. Edward does try to tell her she's young and dumb (not necessarily in those words), but Bella is smarter than you or Edward (at first) give her credit for. Just keep reading. You might change your mind and love it with all your heart by the end.
It's a book of fiction. It's not real. Stop thinking with your educated brain and let the book take you to a new world of young, yet mature and everlasting love (LOL)! Fly, little bird, fly!
Dearest Jessica,
I completely, strongly, emphatically disagree with you. By the third book, you will be saying "Dumb dumb dumb Bella! How old are you - 17!?!" She will definately be acting her age.
And, truly, the world would be so much more exciting with vampires in it. So let's get rid of the gangs and drugs and terrorism and replace it with vampires, werewolves, mature-ish 17 year olds and love. True, unconditional, irrevocable love.
Love,
Your humble-ish sister. Who loves you unconditionally, irrevocably, and forever despite our canyon-ish differences.
I didn't like that whole undying love and devotion at 17 either. But when I was 12 or 13, I would have been enthralled by that and totally agreed. Hey, I was pretty stupid. Not too much changed, but I think I know a little bit more about love now, 10+ years later. Good point there. (And it was great to see you!)
